لماذ المريخ ؟

من الثابت الآن أن كوكب الأرض يقترب بشكل متسارع من الوصول لحالة يصبح فيها غير مناسب للحياة البشرية بسبب التغير المناحى .فالاحتباس الحرارى يزداد و جليد القطبين ينصهر و مستويات سطح مياه البحار و المحيطات ترتفع. و الكثير من المدن الساحلية مهددة بالإختفاء.و كذلك تلوث البيئة يزداد . و الطاقة الحرارية المحبوسة فى نواة الكرة الأرضية يزداد و لذلك فإحتمالات انطلاق دفقات من تلك الطاقة لسطح الأرض على شكل زلالزل و براكين و تسونامى إحتمالات متزايدة. ناهيك عن اقتراب مجرتنا بمجرة مجاورة و بدأت التصادمات عند أطراف المجرة و يقترب من مركزها كل هذا يهدد استمرار وجود الجنس البشرى على هذا الكوكب و ربما فى المنظومة الشمسية لذلك يجب الاستعداد للمغادرة و أقرب كوكب يمكن ترويضه هو المريخ و إن كانت الحياة هناك لن تكون بسهولة الحياة على الأرض و لكن قد يكون هذا المخرج و يمكن منه الانطلاق لخارج المنظومة الشمسية على المدى البعيد نسبياً.
